Charge for Free – Renault Group, Mobilize and The Mobility House launch Vehicle-to-Grid in France, while Germany is establishing the regulatory framework

October 22, 2024|Munich

  • France becomes the first country to enable Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology for electric vehicle owners.
  • Renault 5 owners can now charge and drive for free—thanks to a bidirectional AC charging station and a corresponding energy contract.
  • The Mobility House, together with Renault Group and Mobilize, provides the expertise and technology to pool vehicle batteries, trade charging energy on energy markets, deliver grid services, and offer customers the benefits of an innovative energy tariff.
  • The technology and processes are also ready for launch in Germany. However, the country is in the process of developing the regulatory framework and effective market processes for smart meters quick rollout.

Together with Renault Group and Mobilize, The Mobility House is introducing a groundbreaking innovation. For the first time, car batteries will be intelligently integrated into the power grid through Mobilize Power’s V2G solution in France, offering a commercial and scalable product for consumers. This marks the start of a new era where electric vehicles not only consume energy but also feed it back into the grid, turning them into mobile power plants. Great Britain will follow in 2025, as Germany continues to evaluate and develop its approach to implementing V2G technology.

Free Charging Without Emissions

While Vehicle-to-Grid technology has so far been limited to pilot projects, Mobilize and The Mobility House are now making it a market-ready product. The new V2G solution is now available to a wide range of customers, offered in combination with the Renault 5 and the Alpine A290, the PowerBox Verso AC charging station, and the Mobilize Power electricity contract. Thanks to The Mobility House and Mobilize, V2G is becoming a reality for many consumers, bringing significant benefits to customers and generating social benefits.

With this launch, The Mobility House is realizing its zero zero vision, making zero-emission, zero-cost driving a reality for everyone.

"Since our founding in 2009, we have consistently pursued new and challenging paths. With the launch in France, we have reached a major milestone that proves we are technically capable of successfully implementing V2G. Now, the goal is to demonstrate in Germany that electric vehicles can be driven for zero emissions at zero cost."

Germany's Path to Progress

To enable free charging in Germany, key conditions still need to be met. Countries like France and Great Britain are moving forward without imposing double grid fees and have successfully implemented nationwide smart meter switching processes. The Mobility House is ready and actively advocating for the necessary regulatory adjustments to facilitate the implementation of these requirements in Germany.

A Technological Pioneer with Years of Experience

With its leading solution for aggregating and marketing the flexibility of V2G vehicles' charging and discharging capabilities, The Mobility House creates value not only for customers but also for the entire energy system. The flexible use of batteries helps integrate renewable energy into the grid and reduces the cost of grid expansion. This is a significant contribution to a successful and efficient energy transition that benefits not only electric vehicle drivers but society as a whole.
